I competed in the European Masters Track & Field Championships in Poznan, Poland in July 2006. I finished 6th in the M35 category of the 1500m, and ran a season's best of 2:01.34 in the semi-final of the 800m.
Imagine my excitement when I found out the warm-up area for the athletics was a speedway track...
...and the pits were being used as the call-up area.
On our final night in Poznan, along with many of the British athletes, I joined the Tartan Army at the home stadium of Lech Poznan to watch Scotland take on Spain in the European Under-19 Football Championship final. I didn't take my camera with me, so instead here is a photo of some posters advertising a Miss Bikini contest that was taking place somewhere in Poznan on the same night.
These posters were at Lake Malta, the venue for the Masters Marathon. Having been knocked out of the 800m in the semi-final, I paid a visit to the lake on the day of the final as I'd heard there was a minigolf course there. Indeed there was, and I couldn't resist having a quick round.
